Las Vegas Strip, primarily known as the Los Angeles Highway, it’s part of the town which surrounds South Las Vegas Boulevard. In 1955 the hotel expanded its services and became a casino resort. One of the first hotels opened on Fremont Street in Golden Gate Hotel, previously named Hotel Nevada. They weren’t these huge establishments that we think of right now, they were more like clubs, without a place to sleep or eat. The oldest casinos in Las Vegas were located in the downtown area. They avoided the Great Depression and soon became an entertainment center for all of the surrounding states. Nevada legalized gambling in 1931, which turned out to be a blessing for Las Vegas. The town was founded 1905, previously being home for native tribes and religious groups like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are over 230 different hotels that have gaming facilities in the city, which is an even higher number considering many restaurants also have gaming floors. Casinos are a major part of the economy in Las Vegas, generating about 1 billion of the revenue for Nevada each month. The importance of these casinos to the Valley cannot be understated. Casinos are a part of the Las Vegas landscape.
